Meet the Family

I never had to here "Meet your future in-laws". I met my future father-in-law the same week I met my husband and we were married when I met my mother-in-law. However, I always wondered how future spouses must feel upon meeting the future in-laws. I imagine several factors such as your age, your parent's age, where or how you met or even how you met come into play? Funny, huh?

My mom is getting married next year and I had heard several things (all positive) about her fiance' but there was some nervousness when we met. Here he was meeting her adult child, her adult child's hubby and her grandchildren. I wonder if he sweated a bit on the drive over to our house. I wonder if I was as he heard my mother described. I only ask because my friend is driving to meet her future son-in-law this weekend.

Her daughter will graduate this Spring and has found the love of her life. The young man plans to propose to her later this year but mom and dad insisted they meet him first. Not to pass judgment but only because they have never known their daughter to be smitten with a young man before. She has fallen deeply in love and her mom just wants what's to be sure this is ok. As we spoke I couldn't help but think of my mom and her fiance and his mom's impending visit. This would be the first time they'd meet. Even at near 60 I'm sure his mom wanted to meet my mom to be sure this is ok before the wedding next year.

Will he pass the test? Will my mom? Yeah meeting the family IS a funny thing.
